Hi. I’m Miranda.
I started hosting potluck-style wine tastings in 2016. It’s the easiest kind of potluck, really. Guests don’t even have to make a dish!
But. We all still want a complete “meal,” or in wine’s case, a complete tasting.
And there lies the rub. Hosting a potluck meal is relatively clear-cut. Hosts assign the snacks, appetizers, mains, sides, salads, desserts, drinks. There are clear categories and we all know them. But wine doesn’t really work that way.
How do you decide which wines to assign to your guests to bring? What should the tasting’s theme be? And how do you ensure that each guest brings a wine that contributes to a “complete” tasting? Ok, this is starting to get complicated…
Back in 2016, this was exactly my problem. I wanted to learn more about wine while having fun with friends. At the time, I wasn’t ready to commit to a more serious wine education. I had a demanding job and just wanted to learn in an affordable, fun, accessible way.
I couldn’t find a book or website that offered the guidance I wanted, so I wrote some myself and started the original Wineluck Club tastings. Later, I moved from Columbus, Ohio to Austin, Texas and discovered that people in Austin wanted to join the tastings too. I made new friends in my new city and had a great time doing it.
Finally, I took the plunge and committed to getting a “real” wine education. I moved to Dijon, France to earn an MBA in Wine & Spirits at the Burgundy School of Business. After earning my MBA, I returned to Texas and joined the wine industry full-time, working in sales with GALLO and Winebow Imports in the United States, then as a marketing director at Vinmonopolet Imports in Copenhagen, Denmark, where I live now with my wonderful husband.
I earned industry certifications from the Wine & Spirits Education Trust, from Level 1 through to the Level 4 Diploma, a process that took more than four years.
I dove all the way in. I found out that the more I learn, the less I know.
Now, I want to share what I’ve learned with you. I want to give you what I was looking for and couldn’t find back in 2016. I hope Wineluck Club brings you great pleasure and wonderful memories, just like my experiences with wine continue to do for me.
